BYOD on tracfone?

    Hi, if I am not mistaken tracfone is a GSM provider, this means you can use an unlocked phone and activate on their plan, right?

    Yes, they are a GSM provider and also a CDMA provider.

    No, they cannot be used with other phones. Tracfone have certain program installed on their SIM card so you wont be able to use it unless you have a phone that is provided by tracfone.

    I don't get it.. They own Net10 and Straight Talk, yet those 2 allow byod. Why is this?

    It's because their phones depend on the minute tracking done by the phone, not the SIM card. Many of these phones are also not unlockable. Why bother, their phones are not even that good anyway.
